Today Glenrothes MSP Jenny Gilruth met with the Chairman of Glenrothes Men’s Shed, Mike, and member, Andy, to discuss the fantastic work which the organisation carries out within the community.
The Men’s Shed, which now hails over 140 members, opened in 2016 and since then has offered a range of opportunities for men to meet and socialise within the local area, while learning new skills and taking part in different activities.
The charity aims to empower local people and encourage them to create a lasting positive difference to their neighbourhood.
Following the visit, Jenny Gilruth MSP said:
“It was a pleasure to meet with Mike and Andy at the Glenrothes Men’s Shed and learn about the positive impact which the charity is having on the lives of men across the local area.
The group offers a welcoming environment where nearby residents can meet and learn new skills, including woodworking and crafts.
I am delighted to have a hub with such hard-working and dedicated volunteers and members within the Glenrothes community and it was a pleasure to discuss this work further with Mike and Andy”
Chairman of Glenrothes Men’s Shed, Michael Mowat, also commented:
“It’s been 5 years since Jenny opened the Glenrothes Men’s Shed and membership is well over 100 with the Shed being well attended 5 days a week.
Since opening, the Shed has now gone from a woodworking shed to a very diverse set of activities including stained glass, pyrography, gardening with a polytunnel.
The Shed also works with the community making church notice boards, alongside planters for Seescape in Woodside as part of their sensory garden.
Needless to say, the benefit for all at the Shed in mental health due to the social contact is outstanding.”
