MSP backs Scotland Loves Local

Local MSP, Jenny Gilruth, has praised the Scotland Loves Local Gift card initiative on her recent visit to The Munro in Markinch.

The constituency MSP met with a local business owner, Lynne Munro, of The Munro in Markinch, to discuss their participation in the Scotland Loves Local Gift Card scheme .

This new scheme ensures that money stays longer in the local community, as the gift card can only be spent within the recipient’s own region, giving constituents the opportunity to enjoy and support the businesses around them.

Businesses of every kind across Fife can sign up to the gift card and it is a great way for people to show their support for all that their local businesses have done for them since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Commenting after the visit, Lynne Munro said:

“The Scotland Loves Local Gift Card is a great way to help people shop in and support local businesses.”

The Glenrothes MSP also welcomed the announcement that projects in Fife will receive funding from the first round of grants from the Scotland Loves Local Fund.

Funding from the Scottish Government, announced this week, is supporting over 100 organisations, who will receive a share of the £1.5 million funding boost to help revitalise cities, town centres and neighbourhoods across Scotland. They will encourage support for local economies which were impacted by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and help restore local tourism, make town centres more environmentally friendly and sustainable, and support communities to refurbish shop fronts and public spaces ahead of the festive season.

Commenting, Jenny Gilruth MSP said:

“I am delighted that projects in Fife are going to benefit from the first round of grants from the Scotland Loves Local Fund, which is backed by the Scottish Government.

“Supporting local businesses has arguably never been more important – this campaign really delivers on ensuring we do just that and I was really pleased to visit the Munro in Markinch to show my support for the scheme.”
