Mid Fife and Glenrothes MSP, Jenny Gilruth, has praised the vital community support provided by CAREA Community Hub in Woodside during the Covid pandemic.
The constituency MSP paid a visit to the Hub recently to meet with co-founder Christine Buist to learn more about the support they have provided to the local community.
Based at the Wayside Hall, the Community Hub was founded in October 2020 with aim of tackling isolation, loneliness and poverty.
As well as running a children and toddlers group and adult art and craft classes, the Hub is home to a community pantry and an outdoor area is being developed, too.
The Hub holds a pop up kitchen on Saturdays where a free hot meal is offered to either take away or sit in the company of others.
Last winter, the Hub also ran a successful ‘coat for everyone’ drive that benefited around 250 local adults and children. The Hub plans to run another coat drive this winter and will help to ensure no one is left without adequate clothing in the cold weather.
Following her visit, Jenny Gilruth MSP said:
“Christine and her team of volunteers have been doing a power of work to support the community since forming the charity last year. I visited during one of the Hub’s children and toddlers sessions and there was a real warmth and sense of community in the hall.
“I’m certain that the CAREA Community Hub will continue to go from strength to strength and I’ll do everything I can to support their work on behalf of the community.”
Christine Buist said:
“We set up the hub last year to act as a support network and to give people in the community a place to go if they are suffering from loneliness and or affected by poverty. The services we offer at the hub wouldn’t be possible without the volunteers who are invaluable. We were pleased to welcome Jenny to the hub after she helped with questions about Covid restrictions. It was great to see Jenny’s interest and enthusiasm for what we are passionate about and to have her support for our work.”
