GLENROTHES MSP PUTS IN THE MILES

Published date : 04 Dec 2020

LOCAL POLITICIAN SUPPORTS AUCHMUTY & DOVECOT TENANTS & RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION WITH CHRISTMAS APPEAL

Glenrothes MSP Jenny Gilruth is giving her support to the Auchmuty & Dovecot Tenants & Residents Association (ADTRA) Christmas Appeal 2020.

To help ADTRA reach their £500 target, the town’s MSP is taking on this year’s Marcothon challenge, which involves running 5 kilometres every day in December.

The MSP hopes that local people and businesses will give their support to this year’s appeal so that every child in the town has a present to open on Christmas Day.

Running for ADTRA’s Christmas Appeal is the fifth fundraising event undertaken by the local politician who, since her election in 2016, has also raised money to support Homestart Glenrothes, Fife Women’s Aid, Love Oliver and the Glenrothes Marie Curie Fundraising team.

During lockdown this year, ADTRA provided meals and activity packs to over 4,500 children. All packs were carefully put together by their socially distanced volunteers who worked tirelessly to ensure everyone was accommodated. They used their new Community Bus to deliver the meals and the activity bags.

This Christmas, ADTRA are again providing lunch packs along with presents. Each year they provide gifts for all children they have listed, and their list has more than trebled this year.

ADTRA try to make the process personal for parents by giving the gift and the wrapping paper to allow them to feel part of the process, and to take on the “Santa role”.

Speaking in support of the appeal, Jenny Gilruth MSP said:

“The festive season will bring some welcome light relief from the difficulties we’ve all experienced this year. For many families, though, Covid-19 has impacted on household budgets and the extra expectation to provide gifts will be a stretch too far.

“The community response throughout the coronavirus epidemic has been heartwarming, and we are fortunate to have community groups like ADTRA in Glenrothes trying to help parents and carers keep Christmas special for their children.

“More families have registered for help from ADTRA than ever before, which is why I am supporting their appeal again this year and calling on local folk and businesses to donate what they can this Christmas.

“Your donations will enable Alex and her team at ADTRA to purchase more gifts for children and teenagers as part of their Christmas Appeal.

“Last year my constituency office was open as a drop off point for donations, but this year the office remains closed with my team and I working from home due to Covid-19.

“That’s why, despite the winter weather, I’m taking on the Marcothon challenge. I hope you will sponsor me and help fill a virtual box of donations for ADTRA this year.”

Alex Thomson, Manager at ADTRA, said:

“We are delighted to have the support of our local MSP Jenny Gilruth to help meet our fundraising target.

“This year has been the hardest year everyone has had to face in their lifetime. During Christmas we are again providing lunch packs along with presents for the children.

“Last year we helped over 150 families, but our list has more than trebled this year so we really need the support from the public to makes these dreams come true. No child should wake up on Christmas Day without a gift.”

Donations can be made at ADTRA’s JustGiving page at: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/auchmutydovecottenantsresidentsassociationadtra

Alternatively, physical donations can be dropped off at collection boxes at the ADTRA Flat at 107 Alexander Road, The Co-op Funeral Parlour, Cos Lane medical practice, Tesco at Glenwood, and Gym 64 at 8 Faraday Road.
