MSP WELCOMES EXTENSION FOR MOTS
Published date : 06 Apr 2020
Mid Fife and Glenrothes MSP, Jenny Gilruth, has welcomed the announcement from the UK Government that MOTs are to be automatically be extended by 6 months.
In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the UK Government have decided that from 30 March 2020, MOT due dates for cars, motorcycles and light vans will be automatically extended by 6 months.
The extension applies to all vehicles, including those that need their first MOT.
Vehicles must be kept in a roadworthy condition, and garages will remain open for essential repair work.
Commenting on the extension, the MSP said:
“I am hopeful that this announcement from the UK Government will relieve some pressure for many, and particularly our key workers, during the coronavirus outbreak.
“All MOTs for cars, motorcycles and light vans due from 30 March will automatically be extended by six months. However, drivers are asked to make sure that their cars are still safe to drive.
“Constituents can access more information on the extension through the UK Government website, and the latest health advice is available to read on the nhsinform.scot website.”
