Young Start Programme Now Open for Applications

Glenrothes MSP, Jenny Gilruth, is calling on local voluntary groups to apply for the Young Start Scotland Programme.

Run by the Big Lottery Fund Scotland for the Scottish Government, Young Start Scotland awards money from dormant bank and building society accounts that have seen no customer-initiated activity for at least 15 years. The money supports a range of projects that help young people aged eight to 24 years old reach their full potential.

Over the next three years approximately £18m is available for voluntary sector organisations who involve young people in the design, running and implementation of activities. Groups can apply for grants between £10 and £100k. This funding is not open to individuals.

Commenting on the funding opportunity, Jenny Gilruth MSP, said:

“Young Start presents a huge opportunity for local groups and projects to secure substantial funding.

“The programme funds amazing projects across Scotland helping children and young people build their confidence and play an active role in realising their own potential.

“As we celebrate Scotland’s Year of Young People, I would be thrilled to see the town make the most of this fund that could have a hugely positive impact on children and young people here in Glenrothes.

While not exhaustive, Young Start looks to fund projects where:

Young people take part in sports activities or help or train to coach others

Young people take part in training opportunities or work towards accredited qualifications

Young people gain the knowledge and tools to develop life skills and help promote good mental and emotional health

Young people can engage with a range of creative activities from dance, music and film

Young People are encouraged and supported to learn more about their heritage and local area

Groups wanting to apply can get in touch by calling 0300 123 7110.
