MID FIFE AND GLENROTHES MSP HIGHLIGHTS IMPORTANCE OF STEM STRATEGY IN PARLIAMENTARY SPEECH
Published date : 15 Nov 2016
Jenny Gilruth, MSP for Mid Fife and Glenrothes recently spoke at the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) debate at the Scottish Parliament, highlighting the importance of the Scottish Government’s STEM Education and Training Strategy.
The STEM Strategy aims to help close the attainment gap and upskill the next generation in these subject areas and is a framework which Ms Gilruth hopes will also help to redress the gender imbalance in the STEM industry and encourage more of Scotland’s girls to become future lead learners themselves in the fields of science, technology, engineering and maths.
Ms Gilruth said: “The Scottish Government is committed to closing the attainment gap between Scotland’s poorest and richest pupils. To do that we need to raise ambition in the next generation and increasing uptake in STEM subjects will be vital.”
In her speech Ms Gilruth also paid tribute to Fife College’s new Levenmouth Campus which, thanks to support of over £25 million of Scottish Government funding, offers within its prospectus various STEM learning opportunities and relevant skills and education in these subject areas for people across Fife.
