Glenrothes MSP, Jenny Gilruth, has welcomed news that Fife Council have become one of the first local authorities to receive Scottish Government funding through the Cash First Fund.
Fife Council has successfully secured funding of £200,000 from the Scottish Government, with an additional £29,000 from the Whole Family Wellbeing Fund. The funding will bring into action a ‘Cash First Approach’ that benefits low-income families through minimising the need for food banks and emergency food parcels during a cost-of-living crisis.
The approach will give immediate financial support to the vulnerable, allowing them access to cash for basic needs while maintaining a sense of dignity in the most challenging of times. In total, £1.6 million will be distributed amongst eight successful partnerships, including Fife Council.
Commenting, local MSP Jenny Gilruth said:
“I know that during the ongoing cost of living crisis, many folk are continuing to struggle with soaring bills and food costs. I am pleased to see that this Scottish Government funding will be supporting people in Fife to alleviate these pressures and protect people from harm.
At an incredibly challenging time, and as the UK Government cost-of-living crisis continues to have a detrimental effect on families and communities, the Cash First Fund will give immediate, long-term support and stability to those who need it the most.
The Scottish Government remains steadfast in its approach to tackle poverty and inequality in Scotland – and this is a positive step forward in helping with the difficulties that many folk continue to face.”
