I can’t believe it’s that time of year already, but very soon we will be celebrating Christmas. It has been heartening to see our towns and villages across the constituency putting in the effort to get ready for Christmas. From the wonderful decorations near my office at the Laurel Bank Hotel in Markinch, to the Christmas lights on Leven High Street, which had an impressive turnout for the switch on event this year.

We are lucky this year to have lots of events across Fife to get people into the festive spirit. There was the first ever Christmas Frost Fest organised by the Leven Programme, held last weekend at the Centre, in Leven, which featured an ice rink, music, and even the Grinch. I hope that folk also had a chance to pop down to The Crusoe in Lower Largo to buy some beautiful Christmas gifts at their Artisan Crafts Market. Still to come this Sunday is the Winter Fun Day at Silverburn Park, which looks set to be a full day of festive activities for the whole family with Santa’s Grotto, carol singing, and a Nativity themed scavenger hunt.

This week I have the pleasure of attending Leslie Primary School’s Nativity Play, and I am sure that the talented pupils will put on a spectacular performance. Leslie’s Primary 7 class have also been busy drawing some fantastic designs for my annual Christmas Card Competition on the theme of ‘Light up Leslie’. I look forward to announcing the winner when I visit later this week. There have been many high-quality entries this year, so it was incredibly tricky choosing a winner.

As with every year, there are lots of good causes in our local area at this time of year to consider supporting. Fife Gingerbread’s Heat and Eat Appeal and Fife Women’s’ Aid’s Christmas Appeal will both help to provide safe, warm, and healthy homes for those who need it this festive season. I appreciate that while, for some, Christmas is the best time of the year, for many it can be quite challenging, so I would encourage those who need it to seek help and support.

I would like to wish all of my constituents a very merry Christmas and I hope that this can be a time of rest, reflection, and celebration.
