Mid Glenrothes & Fife MSP, Jenny Gilruth, this week hosted a collection drive on behalf of Fife Women’s Aid ahead of their Christmas Campaign launch.

A cause very close to her heart, the MSP opened her constituency office in Markinch for the afternoon to constituents and local businesses. Commenting after the event, Gilruth said:

‘I was very humbled to see the generosity of constituents and local businesses in the Markinch and Glenrothes area. Donations of gifts, toys and toiletries to those women, children and young people in need this Christmas were received – it was heartwarming.

We should all remember that Christmas is a time to remember those less fortunate. Donating to charities such as Fife Women’s Aid is vital at this time of year especially. It’s also a chance to recognise the wonderful work Fife Women’s Aid do – not just during the festive period, but throughout the year’.

Fife Women’s Aid provide 35 single occupancy refuges across Fife, with over 20 volunteers helping on a weekly basis giving up their time to offer vital befriending services. During 2016-17 Fife Women’s Aid have assisted 131 children & young people access refuge accommodation, 459 children & young people have accessed the children & young people’s service, with 4,070 incidents reported to Police Scotland across Fife over the past year.

Joy Patrick, the Manager at Fife Women’s Aid very much welcomed the gesture by the local MSP. Commenting this week Joy said:

“It is fantastic to see so many donations come through from Jenny’s office. Since her election in May 2016 Jenny Gilruth has been very supportive of Fife Women’s Aid, and we are very grateful to her and other businesses across Fife for their generous donations. Without such gestures Women’s Aid, whose mission it is to work in partnership with others, would not be able to provide accessible support for women, children and young people who have experienced domestic abuse. I would like to thank everyone for their donations.”
