EXTRA FUNDS FOR SPORT

Jenny Gilruth, MSP for Mid Fife and Glenrothes, has today welcomed the Scottish Government’s announcement that it will invest an additional £2 million in sports governing bodies.
The announcement came from the Minister for Sport, Aileen Campbell MSP amid the Scottish Government’s push to reduce inequalities in sports participation. These funds will play a role in achieving more equal participation in sports, as the sport governing bodies who accept a share of these additional funds will be asked to encourage meet certain diversity standards.
The Scottish Government’s strategy to reduce inequality in sports participation includes meeting aims such as a gender balance on governing boards that is representative of the population, greater representation of LGBT+ communities, and further engagement with marginalised or under-represented groups.
Ms. Gilruth, who has always supported greater equality and access to sports participation, is delighted with this announcement. Indeed, just last week, Ms. Gilruth hosted an event at the Scottish Parliament for the Fighting Chance Project – a non-profit organisation that is committed to giving children who have been marginalised or are under-represented a chance to participate in the Olympic sport of judo.
For the individuals in Jenny Gilruth MSP’s constituency, these additional funds mean that more children and young adults will have access to a positive and healthy outlet for self-expression and self-development.
