LOCAL MSP SUPPORTS SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY

Published date : 07 Dec 2019

Mid Fife and Glenrothes MSP, Jenny Gilruth, has offered her support for this weekend’s Small Business Saturday – which encourages people to shop locally and support their local businesses.

The MSP paid a visit to Chandlers Attic in Kinglassie ahead of Small Business Saturday and met with owner, Catherine Fotheringham. Chandlers Attic, which opened its doors in March this year, stocks a variety of local Fife products from small independent businesses.

Small Business Saturday is now in its seventh year in the UK, and in 2018 an estimated £812m was spent with small businesses on the first Saturday of December – an 8% increase on last year.

Figures from the Scottish Government show there are 10,355 small businesses across Fife, many of which have benefited from the Scottish Government’s Small Business Bonus Scheme, that have contributed £3,037million to the Scottish economy.

Commenting after the visit, Jenny Gilruth MSP said:

“I was absolutely delighted to pay Catherine a visit at Chandlers Attic. Catherine’s commitment to bringing a huge range of the work of local handmade crafters and hobbyists under one room is exactly the type of work Small Business Saturday is celebrating.

“Small businesses are invaluable to the local economy across Fife, supporting jobs and growth in our communities. It’s fantastic to see that small businesses in Fife are also benefiting from the Scottish Government’s Small Business Bonus Scheme.

Small Business Saturday is an excellent opportunity for us to show how much we value local businesses in across the Kingdom. With Christmas just around the corner, people should use Small Business Saturday to get out and support our local retailers”.

Chandlers Attic owner, Catherine Fotheringham, added:

“I love supporting other small businesses, makers and crafters in Chandlers Attic, and the Fife wide support I’ve received since opening has been heart-warming.

“Customers also love that by shopping with me, they’re buying something handmade, quirky and unique and getting personal customer service.”
