JENNY GILRUTH WELCOMES FUNDING FOR MENTAL HEALTH IN AUCHMUTY

Published date : 16 Jan 2018

Glenrothes MSP Jenny Gilruth has congratulated SAMH in their successful bid for £175,657.52 from the Big Lottery Fund Scotland’s Our Place Programme.

The money will be used to develop green spaces in Auchmuty, promoting volunteering through gardening and growing to bring the community together.

The work in the green spaces will promote intergenerational links, reducing isolation in the older generation and increasing the skills of the children and young people involved.

This award is part of the £6million funding from the Big Lottery Fund Scotland, a fund focused on supporting people who want to make life better for their communities. 24 community groups across Scotland will use their awards to boost the creativity, confidence and self-esteem of people in their communities.

Commenting, Jenny Gilruth MSP said: ‘This is great news for the people living and working in Auchmuty. I know that SAMH already work hard in other parts of the town – this extra funding is a fantastic opportunity to share that expertise in Auchmuty and to provide support to those who need it. Part of this funding will allow SAMH to develop more green places for the community in Auchmuty allowing it to benefit the generations yet to come. This year we mark Glenrothes’s 70th Birthday – what a fantastic way to mark the beginning of this year’s celebrations. I congratulate everyone involved in the successful bid’

Maureen McGinn, Chair, Big Lottery Fund Scotland, said: “Because people play the National Lottery, then great things can happen in their communities. Today’s £6 million injection of funding is a perfect illustration, as it will create many new opportunities for people across Scotland to come together, learn and share skills. Thanks to this funding, thousands of Scots will have a stimulating New Year by being able to pursue a creative activity, acquire new skills such as growing and cooking or be able to take up volunteering opportunities.”
